SRIWIJAYA AIR SJ-182

Indonesia begins 2021 with deep sorrow. The Sriwijaya Air plane with flight number SJ182 from Jakarta to Pontianak was destroyed in the waters of the Thousand Islands. The plane lost contact at 14:40 WIB, Saturday (9/1/2021). A few moments after taking off from Soekarno-Hatta airport.

Based on the information compiled, the last contact occurred at 14:40 WIB. The Boeing 737-524 aircraft was carrying 62 people consisting of 50 passengers (40 adults, 7 children and 3 babies) and 12 crew.

Pramintohadi explained the chronology of the SJ-182 taking off until it disappeared from radar and finally crashed, as follows:

14.36 WIB - Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 took off from runway 25 Soekarno-Hatta Airport to depart for Supadio Airport, Pontianak.

The plane then passed an altitude of 1,700 feet and was instructed to climb to an altitude of 29,000 feet, following the standard departure route.

14.38 WIB - SJ-182 passed an altitude of 7,900 feet and requested 075 degrees for ATC due to weather reasons. ATC then instructed the SJ-182 to rise to an altitude of 11,000 feet because at the same altitude, an Air Asia plane also flew to Pontianak.

14:39 WIB - The plane was at an altitude of 10,600 feet, then instructed to rise to an altitude of 13,000 feet.

SJ-182 responded to the instructions. Suddenly the aircraft was observed turning to the left or northwest.

Even though the plane should have turned right at 075 degrees.

14.40 WIB - ATC confirmed the direction of Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 but did not respond.

The SJ-182 disappeared from radar and the ATC tried to call the pilot of the plane, again unresponsive.

The plane crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands.
